Info: In 1853 William Anderson became the first licensee of the hotel and called it "Anderson Hotel", in 1855 the name name was changed to "Eagle on the Hill" then in 1859 it was called "Eagle's Nest" and in 1860 reverted back to Eagle on the Hill.

In 1899 a fire destroyed all but two rooms of the old hotel and on February 16th 1983 (Ash Wednesday) the hotel was completely destroyed by fire.

A concrete replia eagle now stands upon the top a cairn made out of stones from some of the remains of the old hotel.
