New page added :-)

If you look in the top navigation on the site you will notice that I have added a new page. Called KML’s it is designed to be a repository of Kml files that I make 🙂 The files are made either via my Asus R2H or my Nokia N95 8GB.

Oh man this is coming out on the 21st party…..

This video footage is coming out on this kids 21st that is for sure….

This is what happens when you are a little to greedy with the old fashion Claw game…..

I want this one….

New advert for the Subaru WRX STI. Ok so the car is butt ugly and I really do prefer the older version. And really want I want is a diesel forester xt with a low range option but you can’t always get what you want. (Hmm could be a song in that….). Well at least the diesel forester isn’t going to be in Australia for a few years at least.

I love the sub on this add however…

“Do not attempt. Really. Do not tho this.Stunts performed at sanctioned events. Specially equipped rally vehicle.”

and

“Professional driver. Closed course. Obey all traffic laws, always drive safely and wear your seat belt.”

Both of these are like “no shit sherlock”! Of course your average 22 year old male subaru driver is going to say “Hey wait a minute, the small type said not to do this, so i will now drive at the speed limit and never put the car into sports mode and set the diff to slide out mode.”

anway enjoy.

The Joys of Moving….

So the move moves forward.  We have a deadline which like most deadlines in my life is not a light at the end of a tunnel but is a freight train in the same tunnel as I am.

so far I am a week behind in the packing, moving, mowing of lawns, cleaning e.t.c.  All because of some damned lurgy that has attached itself to me.  3 days off work and a weekend and I still don’t feel that much better.  Although to my credit I did toss and turn for hours last night and in between coughing fits thought about all the work that I had to do at work coupled with all the work that I had to do at home.

So over the weekend I had to obtain a bank cheque or money order for the bond.  No probs I think, I will stop passed the post office get a money order and then go passed medicare, then get petrol and still be home in time to see some of the 2020 coverage on ABC2. Fine I watched the coverage of 2020 on ABC 2, yes I am that sad.  I was also peved that there was a V8 race on this weekend as well and I don’t have picture in picture on my tv set or I could have watched both.  Sadley I stuck with 2020. I should have more to say on 2020 like most people I am sure once I have read through and seen what people did and did not talk about.

Which brings me to one point.  Yesterday coverage of the v8’s on 7 didn’t start until 2 and the race until 4ish, of course with the time zone difference that would mean 6 in NZ.  Which is wasn’t.  How hard is to to show an international event life?  Anyway where was I.

Oh yes my frantic running around.  Stop at post office, as for money order, only to be told that money orders can only be made for $1000 max.  Great, so I can get 2 money orders, pay two money order fees and risk the real estate agent screwing it up or go to the bank and get a bank cheque.  What is with Australian Post and come to think of it the rental companies.  Given how much rents have gone up unless you are paying less than $200 p/w you can’t get a money order for the rent.

So I go to the bank, the drop pass medicare to claim my $30 back from the $60 I outlayed at the doctors for a whole 5 minutes to get a medical cert for work.  I am in the wrong game for earning money that is.  I should set up a business that dispense medical certs.  All I have to do is look at people say yes or no, charge them $30 for 5 minutes and they have saved money and I have made lots of it.

So that was yesterday.  Today consisted of a slight increase in energy output.  I managed to get a little bit of gardening done (still have to mow the lawns, but between coughing and more coughing, a dusty lawn mower is not going to do be a lot of good.), when then second joy of moving house arose.  Whilst I was out trying to find boxes for moving (aka Dan Murphys) we had a visitor.  My beloved was at home working away in the storage cupboard (or second bedroom if you belive the real estate hype) when she noticed some one about to look in the window.

Evidently it is ok to walk into a property that has been advertised on the internet as if it was your own.  Regardless of whether or not you still live there or have any rights.  See I think that is just plain rude.  After being informed that while yes the house is for rent, it wont be open for inspection for another week or so and can you please get of my property now, not a single apology was to be heard.   I am hoping that this couple do turn up to the inspection so I can follow them home to their house and start walking around.  Evidently it may be in the market shortly.

Carpet Cleaning in the modern world

Year and and years and years ago (yes it was a long time ago).. So long ago it was even before George Lucas ruined star wars with ep 1, I saw a job add that I went along to the “Sales Pitch” for. It took them nearly 45 minutes to even say what the product was. Turned out it was a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner sales job. At which point I got up and so did most of the other people in the room.

So now much time has progressed since then, my childhood memories have been distorted by the whole eps 1-3 saga and I have grown up a lot more and have a real job where I don’t sell either my soul or little old ladies $2000 cleaners that they never needed or wanted. But I digress.

We as you may be aware are moving house… all fun and games I must say, especially given that I was going to spend this week packing and not lying on the couch dying of man flu as I have. So I go out and check the mail. Yesterday we received something I thought was just a bit of a coincidence being a postcard type thing for carpet cleaning. I did notice that it did have a stamp on it, but it was address “to the tenant” so I presumed it was just a bit of junk mail.

Today we get 4 more carpet cleaning letters (ok it was only 3, one of the companies sent us two letters). Now hats off to them for proactive marketing I think. Some more office worker must be sitting in a very dark closet that smells like carpet cleaning fluid all day surfing the web looking for new places that have come on the market. Then if they are not high enough already then spend hours licking envelopes and stamps to send out carpet cleaning flyer’s to people who are moving.

Now this would all be great and dandy bar one little point….. We DON’T HAVE CARPET. The house has polished floor board through out.. All very nice and shiny mind you, however I don’t think that they would cope with having a carpet cleaning machine run over them.

So somewhere there are people who have wasted a whole lot of time effort and licking of envelopes for nothing…. but then if I was stuck in a closet sniffing carpet cleaning fluids all day I might just send out letters to anyone just so i could walk to the post office for 5 minutes.

Firmware Installed….

Now for the fun part.

Yes the firmware installed, and yes the backup worked… but Nokia still has work to do. A whole pile of my applications didn’t reinstall properly. Divx Player, Ybrowser, s-tris 2, gmail, twibble and pac man for example had to be reinstalled from the app manager.

One of my apps just didn’t install at all, that being palringo which I use as my gtalk client.

Now see I am what I would think was a fairly high end user, but this is a pain for me. I have to now resintall all the apps from the sis files in the app manager and I have to then go to all of the trouble of moving the folder structure around to what I had and what I liked.

I use the key codes to launch apps most of the time (it is plain faster). For those of you that didn’t know this. When ever a menu is open say applications for example, if it is the third item across just press 3 and the app will start. Saves a lot of navigating once you are in a folder.

Now I am having to reinstall my maps as well, as the firmware overwrote my beta2.0 maps file. But my maps and places are still there which is good.

BIG WARNING… Assisted GPS gets turned back on! This is am not happy with at all. (Settings, General, Positioning,Positioning methods). I don’t use it, I don’t really need it. I find the gps gets a fix fast enough most of the time and I don’t have a data plan. They are just way to expensive in Australia at the moment even for the short calls that AGPS makes. I use the gps on my phone every day, it starts to add up.

One of the improvements I have noticed is that the Satellite Status in Postioning is much improved. It is now visible with a better outline of the signal strength. This used to be really hard to see even indoors, now it is really clear.

This of course is not in the change log, so make me wonder what other “improvements” have been made…

The only other thing that is a bit screwy is NGage got a little confused. I now two versions of Ngage, the trial and the full version. Very strange. Obviously the firmware doesn’t have the full release of the ngage in it… whoops me thinks that was an oversight.

Took me a bit of hunting to find the new auto rotation feature, so here it is….. settings, personalisation, display, rotate screen.

More to come as I keep installing stuff and finding what else is annoying me…

– Update

ShareOnline like maps reverted to the old version and I can not work out how to get it back on the main screen. Not a no deal situation, but annoying.

Trippy Train Trip – Town Hall Station to Wynyard station

This is a sample post from my youtube account to my blog. The video is of a small train trip in sydney a few weeks ago with a new bit of audio over the top. All the wigging out however is all in camera. The nokia n95 tends to wig out in black environment with moving lights less than a metre away doing 60kph. Go figure.

Evening Rush

Playing around with the “Night Mode” on the nokia n95. I am really impressed with the quality of some of these images and the flexibilty to get great night shots like this, which are only hand held. Also killing time whilst waiting for a pizza is much more enjoyable when i get photos like this as well as a great meal 🙂

What Rental Crisis…

I went to Sydney for work a month and bit ago, and got a phone call from my wife saying that she had received a letter from the landlord with the obligatory “You have been there 12 months let us screw you some more rent increase”â„¢ letter.

Now if we were really happy with the place and increase of $25p/w may have been something we would have coped on the shoulder. But we are not, it is too small, the heating is so inefficient that the lounge room can be 30C whilst the kitchen wont get above 15c. It doesn’t have a dishwasher and the only reason that we can access the shed to put the car away is that we got in and did all the gardening that hadn’t been done. Finally the house seems to eat lightblubs as well, which makes me nervous about all my computer gear.

So after a weeks holiday with aircon and a dishwasher we decide it was time to move on. Very quickly we find a place 3k’s up the road in a good suburb that has more room, (3 bedrooms vs 1 bedroom and a hall cupboard that is the study), has central heating and the killer for me a dishwasher. The kicker is that it is what we are paying now, not the increase, not a bit more, but what we are paying now.

Once our application was all approved and what not we send our current landlord/agent a letter saying so long and thanks for all the fish. Yesterday arrives the “Now you are moving out can we bring people through email”â„¢, fine I say and of to their website I go. Falling of my chair I slowly drag myself back up to the monitor, take off, put on, take off and put back on my glasses just to make sure what I have seen is correct and it is. Our place which is $330 p/w has suddenly become a fully renovated cute as button house for $400. Now it may take a few weeks, but I am sure that some sucker will pay to be “close to town”.

Given the hovels that we have seen when looking for a house it will be curious to watch this price increase with anticipation. If they can afford to rent the place out at what we were paying, why a 50p/w increase simply cause the property is vacant. Perhaps they will put in central heating, a dishwasher and fix the power, and fix the shower in the bathroom that is so small that when you lie in the bath your feet touch the toilet. Of course they will then this will be a $400p/w cute as a button house. I might even apply then.
