What a load of Crock!

ABC news

I quit golf over Iraq war: Bush

US President George W Bush has revealed that he quit playing golf in 2003 out of respect for the families of US soldiers killed in the conflict in Iraq, now in its sixth year.

“I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal,” he said in an interview for Yahoo and Politico magazine.

“I don’t want some mum whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them.”

What a load of crock! The rehumanising of a war mongering idiot continues. Quick lets rebuild my personality before I leave office for starting a war based on BS and following my fathers legacy. Even Dick managed to keep shooting whilst a war was on, but old George stops golf. Please try another one. I think it had more to do with his lack of ability at playing golf than any respect for the young americans he sent to die.

So the question should be, what should he have given up.

new Xfiles Movie trailer….

I must say I am a little hesitant about this…

I was a great fan of the show for the first few seasons, then my interest wained. The movie does have the potential to fix some of the wrongs.. (or create some new ones!)

Errors in the Maps Beta

To make matters worse, It is not just the Australian maps, it seems to be my phone 🙁

I did a delete reinstall of the maps on first load,… and did another one over the weekend. And still it is all screwy.

Here are the problems I have..

the white dots are breadcrumbs… but I haven’t walked these roads…

And the Yarra river is meant to be here.. but it is not. (and it gets worse and you zoom out!)

and either Nokia knows what is coming as far as global warming is concerned, or these maps which show the correct roads, but wrong water do have issues

Nokia to take over the GPS market.

Given that nokia is now one of the largest manufactures of digital cameras and mp3 players… why not the GPS as well.

HELSINKI, May 8 – Nokia Oyj, the world’s top cellphone maker, expects to sell 35 million Global Positioning System (GPS) equipped phones this year, its chief executive said on Thursday.

“We expect to ship about 35 million GPS-enabled Nokia devices in 2008, which is equal to the entire GPS device market in 2007,” CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo told the annual shareholders’ meeting.

Nokia’s $8.1 billion acquisition of U.S.-based navigation firm Navteq, which is still pending regulatory approval in the European Union, is a good deal, Kallasvuo said.

“When we look at it with the eyes we have now, when regarding pedestrian navigation, map services, digital maps, we are even more excited about the opportunities than when making the decision,” Kallasvuo said.

Most phones sold this year go to customers who already have a phone, and Nokia CEO said: “Globally, we expect replacement sales to represent more than 70 percent of the industry’s volume in 2008.”

The Finnish cellphone maker said recently it is set to introduce many new phone models through U.S. carriers in coming months to grab a bigger share of the market there.

Kallasvuo said he sees better times ahead for Nokia in the United States, where according to the research firm Strategy Analytics its market share has collapsed from 20 percent to 7 percent over the past two years.

Oh No…. I am out of time…

Oh No…. I am out of time…
:-)…. sorry couldn’t help myself.

perhaps this is the reason 🙂  To much oregano.

oh wait here is the reason I have no time

Even more Kml's

I have found some backup files and output the KML’s for them. (I use this link to create them from raw NEMA log files http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=googleearth a great site for automatically converting all sorts of files to kml with a lot of options along the way.)

This includes a trip all around Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne, and the big Xmas trip from last year which was the drive from Melbourne to Newcastle and home via Parkes.

Enjoy. (Click on the KML link above and like before the newest are at the top of the list.)

Nokia Maps Beta Update

(Update 1 – Do not install the new maps via Map Downloader! – The Melbourne/ Australian maps are really really screwy, and make the product almost unusable!, all the water is missing and at various zoom levels the maps are just plain wrong)

Will work out a report for this over the weekend…

(No official change log, but comments at Allaboutsymbian have some details already)

And it looks like some maps have been updated.. will have to see if I can do a right hand turn into my street yet or not!)

This is Food?

Why does all foodhall food taste so bad. Can’t people actually do fast food that is even closely similar to food. This thing for example was meant to be a vegetable pattie of some description but do you think that I could acutally finish it. Not even close, this was the point at which I gave up and wasted all of this food.

Here I am 4 hours later and I am still not hungry, just looking at this photo is scaring me again. Of course it was meant to be a quick snack, the kitchen at the new house is not quite all together and I had to pick up a copy of I Am Legend on dvd as well as a new ADSL line filter (more on that tomorrow!) So a quick snack at the food hall was meant to get me through the evening.

Not going to happen. I guess it is also a sign of growing older. I actually want to cook a meal that is healthy and tasty and I am over takeaway. Who would have thought this possible 10 years ago. So yes mum, you were right. (Again)

Madelbrot Sets on S60….

Thanks to the folks over at Symbian-Freak for this little gem.

A Madelbrot set generator the runs under Python on you S60 device. I remember when I used to run a BBS all the way back in the dark days of the early 90’s having these running when ever I had a party at my place. People would drink and smoke way to much and spend hours just watching the screen go back and forward.

But now I can do it on the road. (Perhaps I won’t try it whilst driving however)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandelbrot_set

The Mandelbrot set is a set of points in the complex plane, the boundary of which forms a fractal. Mathematically, the Mandelbrot set can be defined as the set of complex c-values for which the orbit of 0 under iteration of the complex quadratic polynomial xn+1=xn2 + c remains bounded.[1]

last update for location tagger :-)

This is the update I was waiting for.. but now I have to wait for the firmware version (so that could be a while) seeing as I just got firmware 2 weeks ago 🙂

From Nokia Betalabs tonight…

“I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is Location Tagger has just been updated. The bad news is this version will be the last update on Beta Labs. Instead, location tagging will be integrated into selected future Nokia devices.

What’s new in this release?

  • Persistent log. Now when you exit the application, your list of images in your logs tab will not disappear. When you delete an image from the Gallery of File Manager, the item will also be removed from the logs tag.
  • File renaming. There is additional option in the Settings menu to rename tagged file. The file name will be added _NLT as suffix. For example, if the original file name is image001.jpg, it will be renamed to image001_NLT.jpg. This feature will allow you to easily differentiate between tagged and non-tagged files.
  • Get location from cache. As you may know from our last posting that Location Tagger tags pictures with the last known position in the last 1 hour. If there is no last known position, it will put pictures in the queue until time-out. We added a new feature that allows you to get location from GPS device’s cache.
  • Optimization and some bug fixes. This new version should run relatively faster than the previous one.
